Pre-Practice Taping and Treatments
Please be aware that 3:45pm-4:15pm tends to be very busy, and students are seen on a first-come first-serve basis. If you are concerned about being late to practice, be sure to TALK TO YOUR COACH beforehand so he/she knows where you are. We recommend getting to the athletic training room as soon as possible after school for any pre-practice treatment, including foam-rolling, stretching, or taping. Students are welcome to come as early as 2:30pm, provided they have a free period.
Injury Evaluation
If an athlete has a minor injury, such as a jammed finger, scrape, or mild sprain, he/she may stop by during pre-practice treatments or walk over to the athletic training room if the injury occurs during practice. We can typically evaluate and treat these injuries quickly and prepare the student to return to practice safely.
If an athlete has a moderate injury, such as chronic low back pain or an ankle sprain, he/she may come after school but should be prepared to wait through the pre-practice rush if it is not emergent. Evaluation may take longer with these injuries, so make sure to TALK TO YOUR COACH beforehand in case you are late to or absent from practice. Moderate injuries may require complete rest or modification of activities, pre/post-practice treatment, rehabilitation exercises, or even further evaluation by a physician. We will call the athlete's parent or guardian and notify the coach if the athlete is unable to return to full participation in their sport.
If an athlete has a serious injury during practice or competition, such heavy bleeding, is unable to walk, etc, coaches should radio or call us immediately and we will come to the scene for assessment. Our staff will contact a parent or guardian as soon as possible.

Doctors Appointments
We encourage our athletes to see a physician in the event of an injury, but ask that they please see us first. This allows us to facilitate better communication between our staff at ETHS and the physician's office. We may also be able to recommend a physician based on the type of injury, or help set up the appointment - for example, we are often able to call our team physician directly to see if she is able to squeeze in a patient at the last minute or have the student seen at our weekly clinic on campus.
Please be aware that if a student does see a doctor for any reason, we must receive a note from the physician in order to allow the athlete to return to sport participation. The physician's office may fax us a copy of the note at 847-424-7933 or the athlete may drop it off at the athletic training room. We will withhold an athlete from practice and competition if we do not receive a note.

ImPACT Testing and Concussions
Every student-athlete must complete baseline ImPACT testing. Athletes must have a recent baseline test on file in order to try-out, practice, or compete; if you did not test during the previous school year, it is mandatory that you re-test this year! In the event that an athlete is concussed, ImPACT will be utilized for post-injury evaluation, in addition to the traditional physical exam. No athlete may begin the return-to-play process until they have been symptom free for 24 hours. All final clearance decisions are made through the team physician and the ETHS Sports Medicine staff. For more information on concussions and our management protocol, please see the Resources section.

Therapeutic Modality Policy
We are fortunate to have many treatment options at our disposal; we can provide ice, heat packs, therapeutic ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to our athletes. However, therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation will not be administered unless the athlete has parental permission or a physician's note.
